Palmerston North Chinese Students and Scholars Association (PNCSSA) is a welcoming community that promotes and shares Chinese culture within Palmerston North and the wider New Zealand community. We create opportunities for cultural exchange, friendship, and personal growth by organising a mix of fun, informal activities and formal events that showcase the richness and diversity of Chinese traditions.

Our aims

• Promote and share Chinese culture through performances, workshops, film nights, food events, and cultural festivals.
• Organise social and academic activities—language exchanges, networking sessions, study groups, and formal ceremonies—that support members’ wellbeing, learning, and professional development.
• Serve as a bridge for cultural exchange between Chinese students and scholars and the wider New Zealand community, building mutual understanding and lasting connections.
• Liaise with other student groups, local organisations, and the university to create collaborative events and broaden cross-cultural engagement.

What we do

• Cultural events: Chūn-jié (Chinese Spring Festival) celebrations, Zhōng-qiū-jié (Mid-Autumn Festival) gatherings, traditional costume, music and dance showcases, and calligraphy or tea ceremony workshops.
• Social activities: Movie nights, potlucks, campus excursions, and game nights that help members relax and form friendships.
• Academic & professional support: Study groups, career talks, and mentorship programs connecting students and scholars across disciplines.
• Community outreach: Collaborative events with local New Zealand organisations, cultural exchange programs, and volunteering that foster mutual understanding.

In essence, PNCSSA is more than just a club; it is a supportive community, a cultural ambassador, and a platform for personal growth.
