Massey University Albany Rugby Club (MUARC) aims to create an inclusive platform where students and community members can experience rugby firsthand. The club seeks to encourage greater involvement in the sport across a wide range of roles, including playing, coaching, management, volunteering, officiating, and supporter participation. Through this approach, MUARC aims to broaden engagement in rugby both on and off the field while fostering a strong sense of community and belonging on campus.
MUARC is proud to be affiliated with the New Zealand Universities Rugby Football Council (NZU Rugby) through its partnership with North Shore Rugby Club. This affiliation provides Massey University Albany students and alumni with a clear and supported pathway into club and representative rugby. Students who play, or aspire to play, for North Shore Rugby Club have the opportunity to progress through the university rugby system, including the chance to wear the prestigious NZ Universities jersey and compete against international opposition.
NZU Rugby has a proud and distinguished history, featuring notable victories against internationally renowned teams such as the South Africa national rugby union team and the British & Irish Lions. These achievements highlight the unique representative opportunities available through the university rugby pathway and the rich tradition that student-athletes can become part of.
This partnership complements North Shore Rugby Club’s existing relationship with the Royal New Zealand Navy, creating multiple pathways for players, coaches, managers, and volunteers to develop both on and off the field. Together, these aligned sporting, professional, and personal development opportunities provide a strong foundation for growth and success.
