Kia ora, I’m Ayla. I live on the East Coast of Northland and, like a lot of Massey students, I’m in my 30s and juggling study alongside family and work commitments. You may have already seen me in the distance group or in other distance spaces.
I’m studying a Bachelor of Science (Psychology), and before that I spent 15 years working in marketing. That experience gave me the skills to communicate clearly and accessibly, engage with diverse groups, and translate complex information or processes into meaningful, practical outcomes.
In my four years as a distance student, three years on student committees and six months as a rep, I’ve become very familiar with the unique challenges and opportunities of studying remotely. It’s also given me insight into how the association works and how to navigate it effectively.
If re-elected, I hope to create more Health and Wellbeing opportunities for distance students, because I know that accessing their services and resources has been a point of frustration for many. I’ll also continue to strengthen communications, advocate for our needs, and push for good outcomes if or when things don’t go to plan.
Let’s make this year a good one!
